Black Immigrants In The United States
Black immigration in the United States is shaped not only where people come from and what they experience when they arrive. The first enslaved people arrived in the United States in 1619 and continued for nearly two hundred years. This has result to the population of enslaved in the U.S reaching nearly 4 million people in 1860. At the same time, Black immigrants face unique challenges in comparison to other immigrants, born from factors like anti-Black discrimination and racial prejudice, which can be layered on top of their experience as immigrant.
